Formula E officially unveiled the Gen4 car. It will be used from the 2026-27 season. The Gen4 will feature nearly 50% more power and all-wheel drive. This will allow Formula E to achieve a significant improvement compared to the previous generation cars.

Formula E and the FIA presented the entirely new racing car Gen4.

It marks the rediscovery of motorsport and the beginning of a new era in the fully electric championship. The new car will debut in the 2026/27 season.

With the ability to reach high speeds, the fastest car in the history of Formula E is designed for today’s pioneers and the talents of tomorrow. It sets a new world standard for innovation, speed, and sustainability.

Gen4 will debut in the 2026/27 season of the Formula E World Championship. The car will have a power output of 600 kW (equivalent to over 815 hp) and all-wheel drive in every phase of the races.

In comparison, the current Gen3 Evo reaches a power of up to 400 kW (536 hp). This includes all-wheel drive, which Gen4 will retain.

Formula E Gen4 will surpass its predecessor even in race mode. At that time, its maximum power will be 450 kW (603 hp). In comparison, the power of the current generation cars in Formula 2 is 620 hp.

All-wheel drive will be available at all times. Currently, it can only be used during qualifying duels, race starts, and attack mode.

From an aerodynamic perspective, the Formula E Gen4 features a high downforce configuration for qualifying and a low downforce setup for the race. The latter reduces drag and, consequently, electric energy consumption.

This will be the most challenging Formula E car to master, designed for wheel-to-wheel battles and stunning moments for the fans. Every feature of the GEN4 makes this machine more suitable for the tracks for manufacturers and their future innovations in the automotive industry than ever before.

The GEN4 is the most sustainable racing car in motorsport, evolving the circuit design at every level. Its construction uses 100% recyclable materials, setting a new standard for environmental responsibility.

After making its debut with entirely new photos and videos, the Gen4 will be tested by registered manufacturers for the new era of Formula E. These are Porsche, Nissan, Stellantis, Jaguar, and Lola

The experts will apply their internal technologies. They will transfer their experience in the field of propulsion and energy management. This way, they will calibrate and push the vehicle’s capabilities to the limits before its debut at the beginning of the 2026/27 season. In this way, they bring their transportation experience into the sport and confirm that the Formula E World Championship is the most significant motorsport for automotive manufacturers.

“GEN4 is much more than a racing car. „It represents over a decade of progress, innovation, and ambition in electric racing,“ said Jeff Dodds.

„Developed in collaboration with the FIA, it is the most advanced, demanding, and sustainable machine we have ever built, redefining the possibilities in terms of performance and environmental responsibility. With the Formula E Gen4, it strengthens its position as the most forward-thinking sport in the world and a true pioneer in racing,“ added the CEO of Formula E.

„We are proud to present the innovative Formula E Gen4 single-seater.“ This is a car that once again sets higher standards regarding the capabilities of electric technology in motorsport. It highlights how far Formula E has come since 2014.

„Ready for racing in Season 13, this bold new technical framework document, jointly provided by the FIA and Formula E, will allow original equipment manufacturers to incorporate and showcase their technologies applicable to road cars more than ever. „This marks the beginning of a new, brilliant era for the championship, which will undoubtedly be the most exciting and energizing one yet,“ commented FIA Senior Sports Director Marek Navarecki.

„Gen4 is designed for the pioneers of tomorrow. The new technical capabilities, from 600 kW power to active all-wheel drive, will challenge our drivers like never before. This is a car built for wheel-to-wheel battles and pure racing action,“ said Alberto Longo.

“I would like to thank our partners at FIA for their collaboration in this incredible innovation.“ We look forward to further collaboration as our manufacturers and teams refine these machines with the help of their performance experts. Together with the FIA, we have created the most challenging car to master in the championship. We can’t wait to see the incredible races it will deliver to fans around the world,“ added the co-founder and executive chairman of Formula E.
