Kalle Rovanperä continues his preparation for the transition from rallying to racing single-seater cars. The two-time WRC champion conducted a test with an older generation Formula 2 car at the Jerez circuit. This allowed him to familiarize himself with a machine that is relatively close to the one he will drive in Super Formula.

Kalle Rovanperä completed his first test in a Formula 2 car.

The two-time World Rally Champion is preparing to transition to single-seater racing next year.

Last month, Rovanperä decided to make a surprising change in his career. The Finn chose to leave the World Rally Championship at the end of the season to start a career in single-seater racing.

The 25-year-old driver confirmed his plans to compete in the Japanese Super Formula next year. After that, he aims for a potential move to Formula 2 in 2027. His long-term goal is to participate in F1.

Rovanperä’s test remained under the radar. Yesterday, the Finn published photos on social media showing him driving an older generation Formula 2 car, prepared by Hitech and branded with the Toyota logo. This comes just over a week before the penultimate round of the 2025 season in the WRC in Japan. The asphalt race will take place at the beginning of next month.

Rovanperä already has some experience with single-seater cars. Last year, he drove several cars at the Red Bull Ring. Among them was the RB8 – the car with which Sebastian Vettel became world champion in 2011. Even then, he expressed his interest in this type of racing.

“The first F2 test is complete! We can be quite satisfied with the test days. We gained valuable time on the track and finally felt the true sensation of the car. Next week it’s time for Rally Japan,” wrote Rovanpera on his social media page.

Rovanperä is fighting for a third world title in WRC.

Earlier this month, he won the Central Europe Rally. The Finn has the same number of points as second-placed Sébastien Ogier and is 13 points behind leader Elfyn Evans.

During the last round of the WRC, Rovanperä explained the reasons why he preferred to make the jump to Super Formula instead of going to Formula 3.

“The idea was that this way [with Super Formula] we can create the best schedule,” said Rovanperä.

“Obviously, Super Formula is much faster than Formula 3, so the step will be even bigger and more difficult for me.” But at the same time, I can get used to the higher speeds and adapt to the G-forces and other things. We only have seven race weekends in Super Formula. This is quite good, as I can still test much more and start better.“

„The plan is to race the entire season in Super Formula. After that, we will test as much as possible in Europe and at the Grand Prix tracks to gain as much experience as we can,“ concluded Kalle Rovanperä. data-instgrm-permalink=“https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQPBDcuDCpa/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading“ data-instgrm-version=“14″>
